Rap superstar DMX has been taken into custody by New York City authorities on charges that he failed to pay his child support and other legal violations. A spokesperson for the New York County Sheriff’s Office says that the 44-year-old musician allegedly owes a total of $400,000 in child support.
The child support violation was not the only offense the rapper was arrested for. He was also arrested on charges of jumping bail in White Plains and of committing aggravated unlicensed motor vehicle operation. He is also a suspect in a gas station robbery that happened last April 5.
By DMX’s performance schedule, he was booked to perform at New York’s Radio City Music Hall on the day of his arrest, with his show scheduled to start at 8 p.m. The arrest took place at 10:30 p.m. It is unknown if DMX was arrested during the middle of his rap performance or if he was arrested at the music venue before or after the show.
Considering the long list of allegations and suspicions that led to DMX’s arrest, he may be facing a very difficult task from the perspective of his defense options. Indeed, he will probably want to try and defend himself against the child support delinquency charges in addition to the many other issues, like gas station theft and jumping bail.
When Pennsylvania residents face multiple criminal charges relating to different areas of the law, their criminal defense challenges will surely be difficult and time-consuming to navigate. However, by addressing each charge individually, they may be able to reduce the threat and severity of certain punishments relating to the charges.
