Chris Rock, a world-famous comedian, is going to be getting a divorce from his wife. The couple has been married for almost two decades—19 years—and has children together. Their two daughters are 12 years old and 10 years old.
No reason was given for the divorce, though his wife did briefly address the matter. She said that it was simply a decision that they had come to together, after talking over the subject. She spoke about her devotion to her children and how important they would be to her.
Through his attorney, Rock asked for privacy. His attorney noted that it was a personal matter and implied that he did not want to share more information with the public at this time, despite his status as a celebrity with a notable following.
Rock’s wife started a non-profit organization that goes by the name of styleWORKS. The goal of the organization is to help women who have just moved away from welfare support find gainful employment.
The divorce is interesting because, despite being married for so long himself, Rock has often talked down on the idea of marriage, making fun of it when doing his comedic acts. He told one joke, for example, about how Nelson Mandela was able to last in prison for 27 years, but then got divorced just a half a year after getting out, the implication of the joke being that marriage was worse than prison.
Anyone in Pennsylvania who is going through a divorce, even without the assets of a celebrity like Rock, should know about his or her legal rights during the division of assets.
