Pennsylvania father accused of endangering his child

On Behalf of | Jun 10, 2016 | Fathers' Rights

A Pennsylvania boy was charged with underage drunk driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.106 percent. The 14-year-old was allegedly found driving a vehicle with his father sitting next to him. The father was even more intoxicated than the boy, according to police. As is often the case when a parent is accused of endangering his or her child’s life, this man could face serious criminal law and family law consequences.

Officers from Wilkes-Barre say that they pulled over the vehicle that the boy was driving after they spotted it driving erratically on a recent Wednesday night. They performed a blood alcohol test and it revealed that the boy was over the limit for adult drivers. The father’s blood alcohol was much higher than the son’s. His tested at 0.26 percent.

The 34-year-old man was charged by police with corruption of minors and child endangerment. His next court date has been scheduled for a preliminary hearing on June 14. Court records do not show that the man has obtained legal counsel yet, so no attorney has been identified who can comment on the matter on behalf of the man. The boy will also have to face criminal charges related to underaged drunk driving in juvenile court.

When a parent is accused of endangering his or her child and/or corruption of a minor, that individual could be faced with the threat of losing his or her parental rights. As such, parents accused of crimes involving their children need to be aware of these potential family law consequences associated with their arrest and may want to consult with a family law attorney, in addition to a criminal law attorney, to formulate the most appropriate legal strategy for dealing with the situation.
