Our firm represents clients in divorce matters ranging from simple, uncontested divorce, to highly complex matters involving extensive assets and liabilities. At every stage in the divorce process, we strive to achieve the best possible outcome for our clients.
In many contested divorce matters, the most important issues involve the division of marital property. In Pennsylvania, this process is called Equitable Distribution of Marital Property. First, we need to identify the marital assets and liabilities. Next, we need to determine the value of those assets and liabilities. If the parties are unable to amicably resolve the division of their assets and liabilities, the Court will determine an equitable distribution based upon several factors enumerated in the Pennsylvania Divorce Code, including, but not limited to:
- Length of the marriage
- Standard of living during the marriage
- Each parties’ age, health status, and income or earning capacity
- Economic circumstances of each party
- Child custody arrangements
- Tax ramifications of distribution of assets
These factors are guidelines that our attorneys use to successfully negotiate and resolve divorces. If a court hearing becomes necessary, our attorneys are skilled at presenting complex issues of marital assets and liabilities, and valuation of those assets to the court.
